Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets in Sadr City Monday chanting "Bush, Bush, listen well: Two shoes on your head." Palestinian journalists asked who would be willing to toss their shoes at Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. People in Saudi Arabia joked that it was "the international day for shoes." And a Libyan charity gave the reporter an award for bravery.
Muntadhar al Zeidi, a 28-year-old Shiite who works for al Baghdadia TV station, hurled his shoes at Bush's head at a Sunday press conference in Baghdad.
Throwing shoes is a sign of disrespect in the Arab world.
